Carol Browne

Carol has over a decade of experience as a job placement consultant and has also been involved in FutureWorks’ public education initiatives. She has strong knowledge in the local labour market, and has an excellent network of contacts in the local IT community.

Since 2005 Carol has been an active blogger, and now brings her talents to FutureWorks to maintain the company’s social media presence online. FutureWorks has further benefitted from her interests and skills in photography. A noted photographer, Carol’s work has produced award-winning images.

Barb Kojder

Employment Consultant & Build For The Future Team Member

Barb has 20 years experience in the employment field specifically in the areas of job placement, training and administration, and human resources. Her areas of expertise include coordinating and facilitating privately and publicly funded training programs (software training, career and outplacement issues), curriculum development, and office systems set-up. Additionally she has extensive experience in recruitment interviewing, hiring, staffing matters, management, and evaluation processes.

Barb has a proven ability in training and is able to relate to the needs and learning styles of trainees with sensitivity, while ensuring outcomes are met in a timely manner.

Catherine Kriekenbeek-Lee

Employment Consultant, Communications & Newsletter Editor

Catherine brings twelve years of communications experience to FutureWorks. Catherine's knowledge and expertise comes from working with a wide range of industry sectors: science and technology, real estate, various federal and provincial agencies, and the non-profit field. Prior to working as a consultant, one of her public education projects at FutureWorks was managing the April 1999 Careers of the Future Info Fair for 3000 young people in Vancouver. Her areas of specialization include internal communications, media relations, event logistics, corporate and media sponsorship, and writing.

Catherine’s background includes five years in strategic planning and government relations in her position as Legislative and Public Affairs Coordinator at the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board. Catherine has experience writing for newsletters, coordinating focus group studies, developing and implementing educational programs, forums, and public seminars. Her educational background includes a B.A. in Political Science (UBC) and a Certificate in Public Relations.

Jenette Barry

Project Manager, WorkStart

Since completing her B.A. in Psychology (SFU), Jenette has been working in the employment counselling industry as a job search coach and as a training wage subsidy consultant. Jenette has been with FutureWorks for over two years and is currently focused managing the WorkStart Program. She has taken professional development courses in crisis intervention, disability management and labour market trends. In 2005 Jenette began managing a pilot project with youth training wage subsidies for at-risk young people and has since been specializing in youth employment programs.

Laurie Williams

Manager, Career Transition

Laurie Williams, CCDP, has over 15 years in the development, management and delivery of career transition and outplacement programs in high tech, science, financial, retail, academic and government sectors. Laurie has worked with hundreds of career transition clients across Canada including scientists, engineers, and lawyers, as well as sales, HR, technology, manufacturing, and finance specialists at all stages of their careers, entry level to executive. Laurie combines her strong knowledge in career development with the use of numerous vocational assessments, including the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory, to help clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves to achieve focus, motivation and movement along their career path, whether exploring other work options, retirement or re-entering the job market.

Laurie’s credentials include a B.A. (SFU), an Employment Counselling Training diploma, and is a BC Certified Career Development Practitioner. She is currently completing her BC Provincial Instructor’s Certificate. Laurie sits on the board of the BC Career Management Association and chairs the association’s certification committee. Other involvements include the Steering Committee of the Minerva Foundation’s Helping Women Work program and volunteering with VANOC’s Beyond 2010 staff career program.

Lianne Coetzee

Born in South Africa, Lianne holds a Human Resources diploma from The Institute of Human Resources and brings a wealth of experience from a career that has spanned various industries. As a recruitment consultant Lianne worked for an HR firm in a Johannesburg where she earned the company’s award for Consultant of the Year in 1997. Other areas of her experience include working in corporate sales for contact management software companies including Maximizer Ltd. and working in a marketing position for entertainment giant EMI Music / Virgin Records.

A dedicated member of the FutureWorks team for the past four years, Lianne finds great satisfaction in helping jobseekers successfully transition into fulfilling careers.

Leigh Williams

Employment Consultant

Leigh has over ten years experience helping companies and individuals find the right employment fit. Through her several years of interviewing candidates and her connection with a wide range of companies she has gained an expertise in software/hardware development, engineering, and electronics.

Leigh has gained a deep understanding of issues that affect unemployed individuals and growing companies. She enjoys motivating unemployed clients to go after their job, as well as the challenge of persuading employers that upgrading on the job will produce long term employees who can easily transition with the expansion of their company.

Michael Wong

Employment Consultant

Michael has extensive experience and knowledge in applied sciences and technology. He has worked as a software developer and engineer for leading technology companies including Motorola Wireless Data Group, Bell Northern Research and Clearnet PCS, as well as US based technology companies. Michael’s skill set also includes experience in sales and business development, most of which was acquired while heading operations for an apparel products design and manufacturing company.

Prior to coming to FutureWorks, Michael was employed as a business manager of the Technical Services division for a local recruiting company where he was involved in business development, as well as full cycle recruiting. A notable aspect of Michael’s background is that he is an expert in the robotics field. He achieved an Honours degree in Electronic Systems Engineering (SFU), and was part of the team that represented Canada in the 1998 World Micro Robotic Soccer Tournament in Paris.

Charmaine Lowe

In addition to a Bachelor of Arts degree, Charmaine recently completed a graduate diploma in Human Resource Management at the University of South Australia.

Charmaine has applied her knowledge and administrative skills within positions that focused on recruitment, training and development. As a volunteer coordinator for an organization’s HR department, Charmaine was responsible for managing over 800 volunteers and their managers. Thavy Phonsavath

Human Resources Consultant

Thavy Phonsavath is a human resources professional with 15 years of progressive experience. Thavy has worked in diverse industries including consumer products, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, financial, manufacturing and retail.

As a coach and advisor, Thavy has worked with leaders and teams in sales and marketing, IT, investments, operations, manufacturing, global supply chain, customer service and shared services. As an internal consultant, she has worked for such organizations as Warner-Lambert (acquired by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals), Ontario Teacher’s Financial and Pension Plan Board, Teleglobe Telecommunications, and a division of Pepsi Cola.
