ASPECT Small Business Employee Training Program

A training program offering up to 900 per employee needing upgrades to pay for short-term educational upgrades.

Canada Summer Jobs 2010

Canada Summer Jobs is a Government of Canada initiative that provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. Canada Summer Jobs is focused on encouraging not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create jobs that not only meet their needs, but also benefit students looking to gain work experiences.

The application period for Canada Summer Jobs 2010 will be from February 1 to February 26, 2010.

ECO Canada Internship

Under the Youth Employment Strategy Program, ECO Canada provides Canadian employers with a wage subsidy to encourage them to hire recent graduates so they can work on an environmental project and gain experience in their field of study.

Opportunities Fund for People with Disabilities (OPPS Fund)

The OPPS Fund assists persons with disabilities to prepare for employment or self employment and to develop the skills necessary to maintain new employment.
For people with disabilities the OPPS Fund provides adaptive equipment and accommodations needed to access the workplace and perform duties. OPPS Fund substantially lowers hiring and training costs and eliminates accessibility and accommodation expenses. This program is flexible and works to accommodate business needs, whether it be part-time or full-time employment.

Science and Technology Internship Program

Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Science and Technology Internship Program provides an opportunity to recent graduates in science or engineering to work under the direction of experienced scientists on cutting edge research and development projects with NRCan partners committed to bringing research to commercial application.

Work-Sharing Program

Work-Sharing is an adjustment program designed to help employers and workers avoid temporary layoffs when there is a reduction in the normal level of business activity that is beyond the control of the employer. The measure provides income support to workers eligible for Employment Insurance benefits who work a temporarily reduced work-week. Work-Sharing Agreements must be agreed upon by both employee and employer representatives, and approved by Service Canada. Work-Sharing Agreements have a minimum duration of 6 weeks. For applications received on or after February 1, 2009, the maximum agreement duration is 52 weeks. This new maximum is one of the provisions included in Budget 2009, and will be in effect until April 3, 2010.

Workplace Training for Innovation Pilot Program

The Workplace Training for Innovation Program is designed to provide eligible employers with funding for employee training in order to:
- Improve productivity
- Support the introduction of new technology, machinery/equipment or work processes
- Enhance international competitiveness
- Introduce innovative training and workplace strategies to increase the long term competiveness of the organization and its workforce.

Both businesses and not-for-profit employers may be eligible to receive funding. Eligible employers must be:
- Small organizations (less than 50 employees)
- In good standing with the BC Corporate Registry
- In existence for one year or more
Complete eligibility criteria is contained in the application form and program guidelines. Applications will be accepted until January 31, 2011, subject to availability of funding.
